The purpose of our Power teams is to provide the highest level of competition and skill training to athletes. These teams will attend several Travel/USA National Qualifier tournaments.

Power team players will get lots of reps at both practices and tournaments, and opportunities to develop advanced mental and volleyball skills.

Power team coaches are trained in Gold Medal Squared and motor learning concepts, with an emphasis in positive and productive feedback.

Power Team FAQ:

Q: What is a Power Team?

At Platinum, our Power teams are made up of our most skilled athletes to create highly competitive teams. They will be entered in higher level tournaments as well as several National Qualifiers.

Q: Why are makeup tryouts before the Power Team tryouts?

After Power team tryouts, athletes will either be issued an invitation to play on a Platinum Power Team or be invited back to the Premier/Club tryouts in the fall. For that reason, athletes who are unable to participate in the Power Team tryouts must attend a makeup tryout before the official tryout date in order to be considered for a Power Team. If there are still open spots on Power Teams after the tryouts, we will host further makeup tryouts to fill those spots.

Q: Will there only be one Power Team per age group?

Depending on the talent and number of athletes who participate in our Power Team tryouts, we may feel there are enough higher level athletes to put together two Power Teams in one age group. However, we will most likely only compile one Power Team per age group with the most competitive and driven athletes.

Q: Should my athlete tryout for the Power Team?

We encourage all interested athletes to attend Power Team tryouts. Coaches are looking for drive, positivity, coachability, and leadership in addition to volleyball skills. If an athlete who attends Power Tryouts does not make a Power Team, they will be invited to return in the fall for the Premier/Club tryouts at no additional registration cost.

Q: Who are the Power Team coaches?

The Power Team coaches will be finalized before Power Team tryouts. All Power Team coaches will have prior coaching experience, be trained in Gold Medal Squared, and will complete Platinum Coaching training and Positive Coaching Alliance training.

Q: Is there a training difference between Power, Premier and Club Teams?

All teams will have two practices a week with a portion of their practice across the net from a team of a similar skill level to give teams and athletes more reps in game-like scenarios.

Premier Teams will have the option to attend a pre-determined skills training practice on Fridays with other Premier athletes.

Power Teams will also have the option to attend the Friday skills training practices with other Power athletes. Power teams attend more tournaments at a higher level of competition. Power athletes will also have access to HUDL which will compile stats and highlights for their teams and as individuals.

Q: Where will the Power Teams travel for tournaments?

Once the team is finalized, the coach will discuss tournament dates and locations with the team. Teams can compete in geographically closer tournaments such as St. George, Idaho, Vegas, etc. or they can travel to tournaments in California, Arizona, Montana, Colorado etc. All Power Teams will compete in the Champions Challenge in Logan and are strongly encouraged to compete in the Salt Lake City Showdown.

Q: Can I play another sport and still play on a Power Team?

Many athletes tryout in hopes of being placed on a Power Team in order to get the highest level of volleyball training. We hope that athletes committing to a Power Team make every effort to make attending practices and tournaments a top priority. Team chemistry is essential to the success of every team.
